BIOGRAPHY
Felicia Coleman is a specialist in the population ecology of reef fishes and the effects of fishing on exploited populations, particularly on spawning aggregations of fish in the grouper family (Serranidae). Her primary goal is to ensure that the ecologically relevant information is incorporated into management and governmental policies. Coleman has spent the last five years working to bridge the gap between scientists and policy makers and the general public where it relates to management of marine resources.

She serves as program director of the Florida State University Institute for Fishery Resource Ecology (IFRE), a cooperative program involving scientists at FSU and the National Marine Fisheries Service. Much of the research conducted by this group focuses on the connections between habitat and fishery productivity throughout the Gulf of Mexico including investigations on the use of marine reserves as a fishery management tool and is designed to provide research opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students. Coleman is also chair for the William R. and Lenore Mote Symposia in Fisheries Ecology and guest editor for publication of the proceedings of these symposia. Topics have included marine stock enhancement, marine reserves and essential fish habitat and reference points and the burden of proof in fisheries management.
